Assessment is planned according to the patient’s symptoms, pregnancy stage, clinical history and the question that needs to be answered. The examination is performed with attention to privacy and comfort, and relevant structures are reviewed systematically. Patients are told what the investigation involves and whether any preparation is required beforehand.
Findings are documented clearly and interpreted alongside the wider clinical picture rather than in isolation.
